Twitter allows ASU to share what's going on at ASU and gives you an avenue to communicate with our university. Share ideas, post links, ask questions and spread news.

Your updates of 140 characters or less. Your tweets will be available for anyone to see unless you elect to keep updates private. If you'd like to post a link that is long, you can use a URL shortening service like tinyurl.com or bit.ly.

Following Twitter users and encouraging others to follow you is what Twitter is all about. See the list of ASU Twitter accounts. You can use wefollow.com and search.twitter.com to find other tweeters with your interests.

Replying is how you address a Tweet to a Twitter user. Place the @ symbol in front of their name to designate a reply. For example, "@ASU I went to see the speaker you tweeted about. She was great!"

If you want to communicate to a Twitter user without creating a public update, you can direct message (d) them. For example, "d ASU I won your twitter contest! You can mail my prize to 1234 Fun St, Tempe AZ 85282"

When you see a post you like or want to share with your followers, retweet (RT.) For example, retweet what ASU said about homecoming, "RT @ASU Homecoming is October 29th at 5 pm!"

Tagging in a tweet allows you to label or group tweets. Prefix a word with the # (hash tag.) For example, "Go Sun Devils! I had so much fun at #ASUhomecoming this year!"

Use search.twitter.com to search tags or topics to see what other people are saying and get in on the conversation!
